Bibsey Mama - Granada
Bibsey Mama¡Hola Mums in Spain! I am a new mum to Lil' Bee (born in El Clinico, Granada April 2010) and very happy to have managed to squeeze just one out before hitting 40. I live in a small village in the Lecrín Valley outside Granada with my boyfriend aka Totally Smitten Daddy.
In my previous life (ie. life before Spain/life before Lil' Bee) I was a conference organiser and then a massage therapist in London. We left London and the rat race last August in search of sun and a simpler life here in Spain. Ha! We've seen the worst rain on record in Andalucia and had a gorgeous bouncing bibsey to boot.
I found out I was pregnant (surprised and quite frankly over-the-moon) the week before we left for Spain. When I took my first pregnancy test I was literally up to my eyes in packing boxes in Hoxton. Undaunted we filled the car with all that we could carry and two weeks, and a wedding in France (not ours), later I was flexing my linguistic muscles and making my first midwife's appointment in rural Andalucia. There were tears at that appointment, and the next... more on that later I suspect.
Here I will write, from the perspective of a newbee to this country and babies, about the ups and downs of moving to spain and the joys and humiliations of pregnancy, childbirth and parenting. My reason for writing? I already feel like the time is passing so quickly and I would like to make a record of this most incredible time and to share thoughts, feelings and experiences with others out there going through the same thing.
I should also point out that when it comes to women addressing other women about relationships, pregnancy, childbirth and other bodily functions, I believe there is no such thing as Too Much Information. So, you have been warned... there may occasionally be a word or two on constipation, bowel movements (and not just Lil' Bee's) and piles.
